Hold you in

'Everlong'-Foo Fighters

The first three things that come to mind when I think back to this September session with the Hartman family. #1) it was so great to see the Hartmans again. #2 Foo Fighters. #3 Ava Anderson.

I first met the Hartmans in 2014 when I did their family portraits and I am so thrilled that they chose me again this year. They are a dream to work with. They are cool people. Super cool. At our session this year, I learned that John had gone to the Foo Fighter show just a few days before. I was a wee bit jealous because I had wanted to go but, well, time passes by and I never bought tickets. But anyway, see, they are cool people. Proof right there.

At this session is where I first learned of Ava Anderson. Stephanie is a rockin' consultant for Ava Anderson (www.avaandersonnontoxic.com/stephaniehartman) and I had the chance to smell a few items. Instantly, I became in love with the candles. I am sensitive to scents. I get headaches easily and these candles do not give me headaches when many others do. Probably because they  are non-toxic. Ava Anderson has a wide variety of non-toxic products to choose from. Products for your baby, animal babies, your home, body and even your car.

And their kiddos! No, Ava Anderson does not sell Hartman kiddos. That was a bad lead in. =)  I mean that I cannot forget the other two Hartmans! Mr. L and Miss S. were super cooperative and truly happy kiddos. We busted this session out super fast as they were on point!

Thank you Hartman family for choosing me to capture your family! Go forth and rock on!

Get up and start the dance

Dance, nanci Imagery

When I arrived at Magnus Tree Farm in Sherwood, Oregon for the Lujan's family session, I realized that I recognized them but I just could not place it. Then when I got out of the car, I realized exactly where I know Holly and Dan from, the torture class at our gym. Holly and I had been emailing each other back and forth regarding the session but we did not realize that we actually know each other. I found it pretty amusing because anyone who does the torture class at the gym, I feel bonded too, even if I don't know their name. We suffered together, therefore we are bonded. =)

Holly and Dan are blessed with two wonderful, handsome, loving boys.  The whole family knows how to have fun. At the end of the session, we had a wee dance party...well, they had a dance party, I captured it.

Thank you Lujan family for choosing me to photograph your delightful family! Go forth, burpee and rock on!

Get ready to be overloaded with cuteness. This family is so adorable I can hardly handle it. Abby is a very busy momma! She works for George Fox University and  is a fitness guru who inspires many on a daily basis, including myself. You can learn more about her here: http://www.abs-in-progress.com/.  Her main man is a firefighter. And together they make a super, duper strong couple!

When we met for our session, Abby told me that their little man, Mr. C., takes time to warm up to people. He must love the camera because he just lit up right away. The photo above is one of the first shots.  This session was a dream. I love how these turned out. I hope you enjoy them too!

Thank you Burgess family for choosing me to be your photographer. Go forth and continue to rock on!

Stillinger Family Session/Newberg, Oregon Portrait Photographer

"My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish."

-Rascal Flatts "My Wish"

It was a gorgeous September day (oh my goodness, I am 2 months behind in blogging!) when I met the Stillinger family. They invited me up to their property in Newberg. When I first arrived, I was immediately drawn to their front door. They bought it (I cannot recall where) and put it in their home. I thought it was so gorgeous and they fit perfectly in front of it.

This session was inspiring and relaxing.  Chad and Lauren's little guy is SO chill and happy. The love was overflowing.

I absolutely love how these images came out. This art, Nancy Imagery, that is captured, photographs, it is created with life,  emotion. I capture it. I do not create it.  Through these images I hope that you can see the excitement, love, energy, and togetherness.

Thank you Stillinger family for inviting me to capture your family! Go forth and rock on!

First Birthday-Milestone Session/Newberg, Oregon Portrait Photographer

"You're the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold,
You're daddy's little girl to have and hold.
A precious gem is what you are,
You're mom-my's bright and shining star.
You're the spirit of Christmas, the star on the tree,
You're the Easter Bunny for mommy and me;
You're sugar, you're spice, you're everything nice,
And you're daddy's little girl."

-Michael Buble "Daddy's little Girl"

Oh boy did I have loads of fun with this session! It was Miss J's first birthday and it was a sunny/overcast day in early September. Sunny/overcast day, you question? Yeah, you know, a not so uncommon day in the Pacific Northwest. There was rain and then it was super sunny and then came the gloom and then rain again.

But yeah, this session was extra fun for a few reasons, One, it was her special day. Two, because mom and dad were super chill and fun and were up for adding in some extra fun. Three, it was fun watching dad dote on his daughter, making sure her headband was 'just right' before each shot and fixing her dress so it was perfect (see above image).  Four, capturing this little family's love for each other and five, dad is into photography also so he knew exactly how to help me out. It was awesome!

We did the session on the family's gorgeous property and both grandma's were able to be there also. It was so sweet seeing her interact with her grandma's, she is so loved!

Mom had the idea to bring out her balls from her ball pit. This was my favorite part. The three of them seemed to have fun playing together and were in the moment and I enjoyed capturing the moment.

There is also a pond on the property, which I almost lost my shoe in. I had slipped into the pond and my shoe slipped off. Thankfully, I did not fully fall into the pond and my camera was completely safe.

Thank you so much Kimberly, Jordan and Miss J for letting me be apart of this important time!

Lil' Miss J, go forth, grow and rock on!

"Wow look at you now
Flowers in the window
It's such a lovely day
And I'm glad you feel the same
Cause to stand up, out in the crowd
You are one in a million
And I love you so
Lets watch the flowers grow"

Travis- "Watch the Flowers Grow"

I had such a delightful afternoon with Cheryl and her family.  The grounds were absolutely stunning, the weather was sunny and warm as is Cheryl and her family.  They welcomed me like an old family friend. Frankly, I didn't want to leave. I just wanted to keep photographing them and chatting.  They are genuine, chill, funny people. The kind that you want to BBQ with.

The little man of the family is such a character with a happy spirit. He is the one that first showed me how funny my squeaky booty is. If you do not know what my squeaky booty is, well, you should just see me in action.

At the end of the session I was gifted with some deliciously ripe tomatoes, cucumbers and corn from the Hettervig garden. Mr. Hettervig thoughtfully picked them out for me. When I came home, my eldest son was in heaven. He loves cucumbers and eats them like an apple.

You know, just thinking of them reminds me that a little thoughtfulness and kindness goes a long way. Being welcomed to the Hettervig home, trusting me with capturing their family, picking veggies special for me and enough for me to share with my family made me feel like I am apart of a community and that I am cared for even though they had just met me. Each one of them showed me kindness and it made me feel good. Not for just the day, but when I think of that day and this family, a smile comes to my heart.

Thank you Cheryl and family for letting me be apart of your day! Go forth and rock on!!

"Two lil' kids with a flow you ain't ever heard
And none faking you can understand every word
As you listen to my cool school melody
The Daddy makes you J-U-M-P"

-Kriss Kross

It was a lovely September afternoon when I met the Williams family. As I type this , it is Halloween, pouring down rain and windy. Heavy rain AND wind is my least favorite weather combination. Hmmmm, no, make that heavy rain, wind and cold. Nope, snow. Snow, wind and cold is my least favorite.

Ok, back on track. This day was beautiful. And this family was picture perfect!  So why the Kriss Kross lyrics? Why naturally because that song is awesome. Reminds me of my youth. And also because the song popped in my head when I thought of the Williams kiddos. Towards the end of our session the kiddos enjoyed jumping off my steps that I use for sessions. And they had some wicked jumping skills.

So regardless of the downpour that is happening right now, I am going to get zombified anyway. I hope it stops in time for trick or treating!

Thank you Williams family for choosing me to photograph your jumpin' family! Go forth and rock on!

I first met the Jarmer family in April of 2014 when I photographed this sweet family.

April, 2014

After our first session together Kristine and I would run into each other at the gym.  I enjoyed seeing Kristine and her adorable little man. I had seen him here and there at the gym but I had not seen her daughter since our last session. So when we met on the day of our current session, I was shocked. I could not believe how much she had grown. I know, it's such a cliché and of course when one does not see a child for some time, it is expected to see how they have grown. But still....I don't know, it's surprising.

These two kiddos so tenderhearted with each other. Big sister seems to enjoy being a big sister and bro adores her. It was delightful watching the two of them together.

It truly brings me joy when I get to see families again that I have photographed in years past. Thank you dearly Jarmer family for choosing me to photograph your family. Mom and dad, you are doing an amazing job raising up these sweet kiddos.

Go forth and continue to teach and  lead in love and kindness and of course, rock on!

"I feel it
It's coming

Rain
Feel it on my fingertips
Hear it on my window pane
Your love is coming down like
Rain"

'Rain"- Madonna

It's the end of August. Portland has had a dry Summer. However, on this particular Summer day, as I was on my way to the shoot with the Redfields, I drove through the dark grey rain clouds. I drove through the buckets of rain. Thinking to myself, "Really, really? Rain now?!" I continued to drive to the shoot anyway. I drove through the rain and came out into the sun. Phew.

I get to the location and as we are discussing the shoot, the rain starts coming down on us. Then it really starts pouring. We ran to cover and we decided that we would wait a bit to see if the rain would pass. It did not look like it was going to. But it did and I am so glad that we decided to wait it out.

The sun shinning and then being blocked by the clouds created a challenge for me that day but these three kiddos did not. They were so easy to work with. Full of light and personality.

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young." -Bob Dylan

I first met Miss E when I photographed her for her 3rd birthday session at the super fun Rocket Fizz (http://www.rocketfizz.com/). At three, she was filled with a playful spirit which was so fun to capture.

I also got to photograph her for her fourth birthday session where she got to dress -up as a princess and twirl. At first she was reserved and I knew her silly, playful personality was still there but I enjoyed seeing this other side of Miss E. Some of my favorite photos from this session were where she was showing her quiet, hesitant side.

Miss E recently celebrated her fifth birthday and I am so honored to be chosen again to document this special time. This time we choose the beautiful Camp Tilikum as our location (http://camptilikum.org/). Miss E showed up ready and excited for her time in front of the camera. This girl is a natural! Her personality just shines. Fun, sweet, silly, smart and playful.  I love how the photos turned out and I love reconnecting with people that I photographed previously. Especially little ones, it's fun to see their personalities flourish.

Happy 5th Miss E!  Go fourth and rock your sixth year!!

“Tiny hands, yes, that's you
And all you show, it's simply true
I smell your breath, it makes me cry
I wonder how I've lived my life

'Cause without you how did I get through
All of my days, without you?
Now living with you, see every thing's true
My baby, it's you, my baby, my baby, my baby"

-Britney Spears, “My Baby”

3 month milestone session

Oh boy! Just look at the grin! Sweet Mr. T was happy as can be for our session. It is so fun to see the interest in his eyes as he experienced new things....or things he may not have not figured out quite yet. When he was laid down on the blanket, his interest was peaked by the huge tree above him and the light coming through.  At one point, I laid down next to him to experience for myself what he was looking at and I tried to visualize how it may look to him. And I wondered how he experienced what he saw. Do you ever do that when you notice a baby deep in interest, their focus locked on? I think it's a nice perspective to remember how everything is new for them, things that we take for granted or things that we just don't acknowledge as interesting anymore.

Due to his interest in the tree, I decided to have him interact with his momma, Amber,  to get some smiles.  As you can see from his reaction, he adores his momma! We got some great shots of him playing with mom and when he decided was done he showed me the cutest/saddest pouty face. What made it even more adorable was that Amber seemed to feel his pain as she was making the same face!

Thank you Amber for choosing me to capture your precious gift! Go forth and keep on rockin'!

Lisa is a boss, A BOSS. She is confident, strong and in control.  She knows what she wants and she gets it. She was also patient, very patient with me.

You see, I really love what I do. I love it! And sometimes I can get lost in it. Lisa hired me to do her headshots and she wanted a few extra shots, non-headshot images. I had so much fun with Lisa that I lost track of time. She was rockin’ it and so I just kept shooting. I hope she did not mind. =)

Lisa is a real estate broker with The Broker Network (http://www.thebrokernetworkrealty.com/). She is also a realtor & assistant/transaction coordinator.  She is one busy momma! I enjoyed talking with her about being a business owner, momma, believing in yourself and setting boundaries. She was encouraging and inspiring.

I look forward to seeing Lisa again and meeting her family at our session at the coast this summer!

And the heavens open every time she smiles
And when I come to her that's where I belong
Yet I'm running to her like a river's song”

The Coursen’s. Where do I start? I cherish and respect this young family.

I first met The Coursen family  approximately 5 years ago when my family first started attending Newberg Christian Fellowship Church in Newberg where Mr. Coursen is a Youth Pastor and heads the worship team. This man is a fantastic teacher, he has a mind like a sponge and a passion for God, for learning and for teaching. He also is madly, deeply in love with his wife, Kristina. And it’s such a sweet love. Because his wife Kristina, is also madly, deeply in love with her man.

Couple photography, Nanci Imagery

A little under two months ago, David spoke to me about scheduling a surprise session for his wife. However, shortly after we spoke Kristina messaged me about scheduling a family session for her husband for Father’s Day. Hmmm, what to do? Well, I admit, it’s a great position to be in. Kristina ended up scheduling with me first and she was able to surprise him with the session. And of course it was then that Kristina learned how he planned on surprising her.

Session time arrives and I am not surprised how well-dressed each of them looks. Kristina has an eye for fashion and finding cool pieces at thrift stores and knowing how to pair them with other items to create a stylish outfit. I know how to pair t-shirts with jeans and sneakers/boots and I can’t recognize a good find in a thrift –store even if it had huge, bright neon lights blinking around it. I so wish I could do what she does.

And those sweet girls of theirs, oh my goodness, just look at them. They are polite, loving, respectful young girls with their own sweet developing personalities.

Sisters Photography, Nanci Imagery

Ok, so for my quote and the reason I chose it. I chose it because what stands out in my memory from this session is the love that Mr. Coursen  has for his woman.  He is crazy in love with her. I could see it overflowing during their photos together. When it was time for them to have their couple photos, he was all hers. His attention was on her. Fully.

I could go on about this sweet family, but hopefully the photos will tell a bit more of there story.

Sweet Coursen’s thank you for choosing me to photograph you! Keep on rockin’ that love you all have for each other!

“Cause baby, now we've got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love
So take a look what you've done
Cause baby, now we've got bad blood, hey!”

-Taylor Swift

“Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift. The Hinchliff girl’s current favorite song. Cheryl, the girl’s momma, is brilliant. At the beginning of the shoot she turned on the song to help set the mood and to get the girls energized. Music at every shoot would be great.

Sisters at an old farm, Nanci Imagery

The Hinchliff girls are a combination of adorable, sweet and silly. A pretty great combination, in my opinion. They were so easy to shoot, they seemed to have a great time. Miss A. had specific requests about photos she wanted me to take, Bunny ears over her sisters head, of course. But she also had requests for me to take a particular photo of her sisters scrunched up face because, “it’s so adorable”. I love it! I know I have said this before but I will say it again, I love it when kids get involved with the session and communicate their ideas. I helps me to get to know them and hear what makes them tick.

Adorable scrunched up face, Nanci Imagery

Tom, the girl’s daddy, wanted to do the session at a special location, his late friend’s property. With authorization, we were able to shoot at the old farm house. A really old farm house. And it was superb. Gorgeous family, farm house, wheat, evening sun, trees, old shed = a photographers dream.

Cheryl came prepared with a few ideas of photos that she wanted to do and everyone was game to do them. Well, of course Tom was a willing participant, he got to make-out with his wife. Well, ok, a make-out session is a bit of an exaggeration but I know he enjoyed it.

Thank you Cheryl for choosing me again to document your family this year. I truly enjoy spending time with you and your family!

Go forth and rock it Hinchliffs!

80th Birthday Celebration- Newberg/Portland Area Photographer

"Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind
Memories, sweetened through the ages just like wine"

"Memories"-  Mac Davis (for Elvis Presley)

My friend Whitney contacted me about coming to her husband's grandma's 80th birthday celebration last month at Hayden's Lakefront Grill in Tualatin. Whitney had learned that many of Helen's older photos had been destroyed. So she thought it would be nice to have a photographer come and capture some new memories. Isn't that such a sweet gesture! And I was thrilled to be the one to do it.

Helen at her birthday celebration

Helen at her birthday celebration

When I first met Helen, I was surprised.  I thought she was 20 years younger.  She was surrounded family-by her kids, grand-kids, great-grand kids and friends. After dinner we did a few family shots and then her family surprised her with a slideshow of memories. I enjoy being on the sidelines watching in, capturing the emotion. It was so sweet watching her reaction to all the photos, reminiscing about that time with her loved ones surrounding her. I especially enjoyed seeing her 3 year old great-granddaughter taking delight in the slideshow as well.

Helen seemed to really enjoy herself and I am so happy that I was able to capture new memories for her. For me personally, I have memories of times that have photos attached to them. Unfortunately, the memories I have of the past that do not have photos are jumbled in my mind or lost completely. It would be devastation for me if I lost (and I have) old images of my past. But on this day, Helen has new memories with images to go with them. =)

Happy 80th Helen! Keep on rockin' beautiful lady!

The Riley Family Session- Newberg/Portland, Oregon Photographer

"Your friends will know you better in the first minute you meet than your acquaintances will know you in a thousand years."

-Richard Bach

I first met the Riley family in October 2013 when Katie hired me to do their family photos. In my mind, we became friends instantly. We clicked. Katie is relatable, smart, gentle-spirited and so easy to talk to.  When we hang out, everything is easy. Conversations flow and I feel relaxed.

That October day, I did not plan on meeting any new friends but I am glad that God had other plans. As a child, I often felt lonely. So through my life, no matter how full my plate seems, I try to remain open to new friendships. You never know who is needing a friend. And I am so thankful for Katie!

Riley family- 2013

Riley family- 2013

Fast forward to June, 2015. I love seeing how the kiddos have grown. Not just in size but in personality, maturity and in relationship with each other. The Riley's have two lovely, sweet kiddos. AND even better, the siblings are so loving to each other. On the day of the session they were really into it. I love it when the kiddos have ideas for poses and actions. Big sister is a born leader and little bro finds happiness in whatever is going on.

Jay and Katie are high school sweethearts. I sometimes get jealous of high school sweethearts. I did not meet my man till I was 26 (at the time I remember thinking I was getting married at an 'old' age!). Jay and Katie make a great team and I can see they have much respect for each other.

The photos from this session are some of my favorites. I hope that you enjoy them also.

Riley's, I KNOW you will go forth and rock it! Love you!

"I'm falling in love
I'm falling in love
I'm falling in love
'Cause you're my Starbucks girl
I can't get enough
I can't get enough
I can't get enough
'Cause you're my Starbucks girl
Maybe it's time to tell you straight
The coffee in here ain't all that great
I just come to be with you
I'm falling in love
I'm falling in love
I'm falling in love
'Cause you're my Starbucks girl"

-Evan Taubenfeld, "Starbucks Girl"

3 week old, newborn photography

Cody and Kayla met while working at Starbucks. From the story I was told, and I am going with it because it is so darn sweet, is that Starbucks has/had a policy that you could not date a co-worker. After a while of working together, Cody asked Kayla out but Kayla said no because it is against work policy. So Cody got quit Starbucks so that he could be with Kayla. Now, is this the real reason why he quit? I don’t know, but I like this version. ♥ And eight years later, Cody and Kayla’s little family has grown. Don’t ya love it?

Kayla contacted me about a maternity session. I love maternity sessions and I love what comes after, newborn sessions! She wanted to include their American Bulldog, Cash which made me even happier. I love it when people want to include their fur babies. We had the session scheduled for the last Sunday of May during the glorious golden hour. However, Friday of that weekend Kayla’s water broke. Baby girl had other plans for that weekend. If I remember correctly, she was born on the day of that we had the maternity session scheduled.

Sweet baby A was born early but healthy! I am bummed that we were not able to get maternity photos for Kayla but I was thrilled to be doing her newborn photos. I arrived at their home and was greeted by Cash (they also have a gorgeous kitty named Mia). While I was setting up, Cody and Kayla asked me if I wanted anything from Starbucks as Cody was going to get some coffees. I thought that was super fitting being Starbucks is where they met.

Baby A was 3 weeks old at the time of the session. She was a trooper for sure. She slept great! She liked to be sprawled out, she preferred her arms laying out rather than tucked in. This is typical after about 2 weeks of age.  She preferred her arms out so we went with it, and she was happy as can be that way. She smiled SO much throughout our session and thrilled that we are able to catch a few of them on camera.

Thank you so much Cody and Kayla for choosing me to document this special time. Go forth, love fiercely and rock on!
